Choi-Go(Best) Water Fountain. Installation
styrofoam, LED lights, steel, PVC print, and participatory fabric notes. 144 × 109 × 138 cm. May 2021
This fountain sculpture
was inspired by a field study on medical water in Sanbang Mountain, one of the
most famous tourist attractions in South Korea, and interviews with two
religious escapees from
JMS (Jesus Morning Star, founded by Jung Myung-Seok)
about the holy water in their nature sanctuary. I collaged
the researched visuals and catchphrases from those sites and created a new
fountain for Choi-Go Water, which even has a rail on which viewers can hang
their wishes.
The installation casts the questions about the power of cult and tourism which designs and produces illusive values.
